Garden Magician Collection

This is going to be a very weird and not very gardening post. So you know how Canva is sometimes a really useful tool to design a pin, a poster, a birthday card or whatnot? Well, I was writing a blog post about privacy screening and how to hide unwanted things from sight using plants like a magician, and thought it would be fun to create a picture of a garden magician. I’m not a fan of AI generated stuff in general, I don’t like when AI is used to “fix” thigs or make them more perfect. I don’t like it’s gotten that good it’s hard to tell the difference sometimes. But when it’s obvious it’s AI, I’m okay with it. I went to Canva’s AI Dream Lab and typed “frog garden magician with a sparkling hat and a sparkling cloak”. It gave me this result below, but I wasn’t impressed.

I thought it could do better, then remembered my neighbor’s impressive collection of garden gnomes and wild animals, and changed instructions to “photo” and a garden gnome instead of frog. Lo and behold, Canva conjured an image of this awkward and slightly creepy old man.

But, despite the look on this man’s face that says he would totally consume you for elevenses, my imagination was moved, and not only that. I discovered the “Style” button with a “Fashion” style in it, and Oh My Gucci!

Look at those magical, sparkly, sexy fake humans!

I got so excited, I used up all my free credits, then got premium and used all of that. Just for fun. I just really liked all them sparkles. Anyway, so here are the best of them.

What I noticed was that if I only said “magician” or something generic, AI would always generate a white male. Not one of the 4 different versions would be a different race or gender. I think they did update it at some point or maybe it learned from my prompts, because when I was in the mood for witchy gardeners, it started including other races automatically.

And because I’m not done, the witchy post is coming up!
